Curiosity in Every Breath: PYP Students Explore the Wonders of the Lungs at BINUS SCHOOL Simprug

Learning is more than memorizing, it is about discovering, experimenting, and understanding the world in meaningful ways. Recently, our PYP students embarked on an exciting exploration of the respiratory system, with a special focus on the lungs. What unfolded in their classrooms was not just a science lesson, but an inspiring journey of curiosity and innovation.

The study of the lungs came alive through interactive experiments and hands-on activities. One of the highlights was a balloon experiment that simulated the breathing process. As students pulled and released the “diaphragm,” they could see how the lungs expand and contract with every breath. This simple yet powerful demonstration allowed them to visualize how their own bodies work, sparking both wonder and excitement.

Another engaging activity invited students to measure their lung capacity. Using practical tools, they explored how much air their lungs could hold, turning a scientific concept into a fun and personal discovery. The classroom was filled with laughter, comparisons, and new questions, proof that learning becomes memorable when it is experienced.

Creativity also played an important role in this lesson. Students designed and built their own lung models, blending art and science in ways that encouraged imagination alongside critical thinking. With each model crafted, they showcased not only their understanding of the respiratory system but also the joy of learning through creation.
