Michael Diptana Setiawan Sutedja – Secondary Subject Teacher (Mathematics)

I’ve been teaching maths in international schools for eight years now, working with students from Grade 7 to Grade 12. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to teach different international programmes, including the IB, Cambridge, and AP.
I often tell my students that learning is like running a marathon. It’s not about who runs the fastest at the start; it’s about staying focused, working hard, and always trying to become a little better every day.
In my classroom, I try to make maths enjoyable and meaningful. I like to show students how technology and AI can actually help them understand maths more easily and build their confidence, especially when something feels tricky.
One of the moments I’m most proud of is how my IB students did in their final exams. Every single one of them passed even those who used to find maths really hard at the beginning. Some didn’t believe they could do it, but with hard work and support, they kept going. In the end, many scored higher than the world average. It was a special moment for me to see how far they had come.
What matters most to me is that every child feels supported, encouraged, and excited about learning.
