Exploring Culture, Education, Environment, and Health in Indonesia at International Young Leaders Summit 2023

The International Young Leaders Summit (IYLS) 2023 returns with Indonesia as the host country represented by BINUS SCHOOL Education, accommodating a diverse array of international students.

Taking place from November 8-10, the event sees participation not only from students of BINUS SCHOOL Simprug, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi, and BINUS SCHOOL Semarang, but also from Chung Cheng High School (Singapore), Nanshan High School (Taiwan), Urawa Gakuin High School (Japan), Suzhou Science & Technology Town Foreign Language High School (China), and Penang Chinese Girls’ Private School (Malaysia).

Throughout the three-day event, students, teachers, and school principals engage in a series of activities organized into four Learning Journeys, centered on culture, education, environment, and health.

The Culture group explores Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII). The Education group visits the Meta Indonesia office to learn about technological advancements. The Environment group visits key locations in Jakarta, such as the Istiqlal Mosque and Cathedral, and dines at an organic restaurant. The Health group learns about mental health at Yayasan Sejiwa.

In addition to these activities, students are prompted to think critically by devising Action Plans based on their Learning Journeys, addressing cultural, educational, environmental, and health-related issues.

Bernard Gunawan Hadipoespito, CEO of BINA NUSANTARA and Founder of IYLS, envisions the program as a platform for students to develop leadership skills that can contribute to societal empowerment in the future.

“The event is designed for students from various schools in different countries, offering them the opportunity to learn about many things, including Indonesia, to share a common quality-wise understanding,” explains Bernard.

Lio, representing Suzhou Science & Technology Town Foreign Language High School, expresses his enthusiasm for participating in this year’s IYLS activities, which have provided diverse learning experiences and facilitated connections within the international community.

“I am very happy to be in Indonesia. In IYLS, I learned a lot, not only about education but also about Indonesia. I also made many new friends here,” says Lio.

The culmination of IYLS 2023 features cultural performances from each participating country, underscoring BINUS SCHOOL Education’s commitment to encouraging its students to #DiscoverNewHorizons, continually expanding their horizons and exploring their potential.
